Mrs. P Announces 6th Annual Be-a-Famous Writer Winner
"The Magic Baseball Poster" from Karen Close’s 4th grade at Elm Lawn Elementary school in
Middleton, Wisconsin was named the Grand Prize Winner in Mrs. P's 6th annual Be-a-Famous Writer Contest. This class selected one story voted on by the class to represent this 4th grade. The theme of the contest this year was time travel and classrooms were invited to write no less than 250 words and not to exceed 1,000 words on the topic. Entries could be fiction or non-fiction and any classroom from Kindergarten through 4th grade in the U.S. could enter one story per classroom.
The Grand Prize winner was chosen by a panel of celebrity judges that included: poet Robert L. Forbes, actress Marion Ross, & 5th grade teacher from N. Y. Jamie Palmer, and Mrs. P. (T.V. actress Kathy Kinney).
The Magic Baseball Poster is a story about two boys who use a baseball poster to go back in time to meet Jackie Robinson the day before he breaks the color barrier in major league baseball with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. The judges felt that the story not only showed a great passion for baseball, but also demonstrated good research especially about Jackie Robinson's first game.
The grand prize winning classroom will be filled with actual books, audio book and digital books thanks to the sponsors of the contest. They will received 1 gift certificate for $100 to purchase books from Buy Preferred. They also receive a One-Year Subscription to Tales2Go for Up to 10 users and a year subscription to myOn Reader, a personalized reading resource with access to over 4,000 enhanced digital books available on desktops, laptops, netbooks, tablets, & more.
