Dana Plautz Grand Prize Winner Announced LIVE Jan 15th WJ Gurganus Elementary in Havelock, NC Takes Top Prize announced LIVE on YouTube the grand prize winner of her 5th annual Be-a-Famous Writer Contest. 5 schools competing for the grand prize tuned in to learn if their classroom took the top honor. My Magic App, a story submitted as a collaborative class project from Mrs. Alicea’s 3rd Grade Class from WJ Gurganus Elementary in Havelock, NC was named the top winner.

 “I love that the grand prize winning story was a collaborative class project,” said actress Kathy Kinney who stars as Mrs. P. “This way they can all truly celebrate the win together”.

 WJ Gurganus Elementary will be filled with actual books, audio book and digital books thanks to the sponsors of the contest. They will received 2 gift certificates each for $100 to purchase books from Buy Preferred and Powell's Books. They also receive a One-Year Subscription to Tales2Go for Up to 10 users and a year subscription to myOn Reader, a personalized reading resource with access to over 4,000 enhanced digital books available on desktops, laptops, netbooks, tablets, & more. Plus Penelope the Purple Pirate & Polka Dots Publishing will be making possible 2 copies of the winning story made into an actual book with color illustrations created by illustrator Robin Robinson for their classroom & school library.

Another school from NC tied for 2nd place and they will reach received $100 worth of books. A $50 gift certificate from both Buyer Preferred and Powell’s Books. David, The Kind Wizard - Matt Slayton’s 3rd Grade at Mallard Creek Elementary in Charlotte, NC had one student’s story representing his class. A Magical Gift: Mrs. Braum’s 4th Grade class from Van Meter Community School in Iowa. There was one story voted on by the class to represent this 4th grade.

 Two additional schools will each get a $25 gift card from Powell’s Books. The Day I Shrunk - Audra Kimball’s 4th grade class from Saint Paul Elementary in AR voted on a students story to submit. My Incredible Home - From Mrs. Cohen's 3rd Grade class at David Posnack Jewish Day School in Davie, FL. The entire class wrote individual stories and this one was chosen to submit. All of the 5 winners will also get Mrs. P bookmarks for the whole classroom.

 The Grand Prize winner was chosen by a panel of celebrity judges, including actress and comedienne Melissa Peterman; The Late, Late Show host and author Craig Ferguson; and Karla Duff who teaches 6th grade at Oelwein Middle School in Iowa.
