MrsP.com’s National Writing Contest for Kids Celebrates Fourth Year with Celebrity Judges, New Sponsors
Julia Roberts to Serve as Celebrity Judge
www.MrsP.com, the popular, award-winning kids’ entertainment site, announced today the entry dates and other details of its fourth annual Be-A-Famous-Writer Contest. The list of celebrity judges this year includes Academy Award-winning actress and reading advocate Julia Roberts, who recently played the Evil Queen in Mirror, Mirror. The contest is free to enter and open to kids in the United States between the ages of 4-13, and entries will be accepted from September 1 through October 15, 2012.
“Julia Roberts must know a thing or two about picking good scripts. She’s starred in some of the most successful films of the past 25 years,” said Kathy Kinney, who stars as Mrs. P and also played Mimi on The Drew Carey Show. “I’m pleased as punch that she’ll be applying those talents as one of the judges of my kids’ writing contest.”
Other judges this year include Melina Gerosa Bellows, the Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer of Books, Kids and Family at National Geographic and Mary Frances Smith-Reynolds, who teaches second grade at Ivanhoe Elementary School in Silver Lake, CA.
“I have great respect for the work Melina does at National Geographic,” said Kinney. “And I’m proud to have an elementary teacher as one of my celebrity judges this year. I think teachers are some of our greatest celebrities.”
Two grand-prize winners will have their stories read by Mrs. P in videos featuring original illustrations and produced by a Hollywood production team. The videos will be posted for viewing by a global audience at the MrsP.com website. Each winner will also receive a bound copy of their winning story, made possible by Polka Dots Publishing. Other contest sponsors include Powell’s Books and Sakura of America. Buyer Topia will donate books to the school libraries of the grand-prize winners.
Mrs. P has also teamed up with Hartlyn Kids and The MacCheeky Book series to provide incentives for kids to start writing. Penelope the Purple Pirate author Melissa Northway is hosting a Rafflecopter Giveaway on her author site, and the winner will have 25 books given to a charity of their choice.
