Actress Kathy Kinney Returns to Stevens Point to Read Classic Children’s Stories
Stevens Point, Wis., May 19, 2009 – Actress Kathy Kinney, a Stevens Point Area Senior High graduate and former UW–Stevens Point student, will deliver her personal rendition of classic children’s tales for local students and the public @1800 Theater on Thursday, May 21, 2009.
Ms. Kinney will appear on stage as “Mrs. P”, a vivacious storyteller featured on Mrs. P.com, a free Web site for children and their families. Ms. Kinney’s appearance is being coordinated by the Central Wisconsin Reading Council through the support of the Sentry Insurance Foundation.
First and second graders from the Stevens Point area will be invited to hear Mrs. P during a morning story time on May 21. An evening show open to the general public will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $3 for general admission and available for purchase at the UWSP Box Office (346-4100).
The event is also a kickoff for Central Wisconsin Reading Council Book-Cycle, a mobile library that runs throughout the summer. “After witnessing Kathy Kinney’s infectious ability to bring a story alive, young readers will surely be inspired to enjoy a summer of passionate reading,” said Amber Garbe, Vice-President of the Central Wisconsin Reading Council. “We are grateful to the Sentry Insurance Foundation for extending its support of education through this wonderful event.”
Ms. Kinney achieved international fame playing Mimi Bobeck on “The Drew Carey Show” for nine years. She also had guest starring roles on “Seinfeld” and “Grace Under Fire,” as well as portraying Miss Goddard, the town librarian, on “Newhart.” She also appeared in the films “This Boy’s Life” and “Stanley and Iris,” among others. She currently can be seen in recurring roles on “My Name is Earl” and “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.”
